Joining the u3a is not only about fun and learning. Our members appreciate the social side of our branch too. Here are a selection of things that members have said about our branch:
'Just to say thank you to you and your committee for organising the meeting this afternoon. As always very interesting and tea and delicious cake very welcome to conclude the afternoon. As a new member I do appreciate your warm welcome each time and particularly enjoy the fun new social events you have introduced to the programme.'
'Thank you so much for the email and attachments, especially about the social events. Congratulations…..everything is very well organised and extremely professional.'
'Please organise more social events as they have been really great! I would not have attended on my own if there had not been a MOTO table.'
'I am very grateful you were kind enough to allow me to join you at the tea dance. I had booked in but had no one to sit with! As a new member I don't know anyone but hope to remedy that soon. Thank you for making me so welcome.'
‘My husband had cancer so I cared for him for 5 years. We never went anywhere because of COVID except for one holiday. He died last year and I found myself having panic attacks and unable to go out and meet people. Family members suggested I join the u3a which I did and I have not looked back since. I now see a future for myself and I am getting some of my confidence back.’
‘My husband had Alzheimer’s and died last year. I cared for him until the end. I lost any kind of social life and apart from family saw no one. Since going to the u3a and the new MOTO group, I see a way forward and hope to make lots of new friends.’
‘My wife and I have started coming to the coffee mornings and it’s so nice to meet and chat to new people and get to know everyone’
‘My husband died last year and since then I have found it hard to get my life back together. I’ve joined the u3a, the MOTO group and Mahjong so now I’m very positive about the future I’ve also made use of the IT group to help with my phone/tablet’.
‘Following Covid I lost my confidence and hardly went out. A friend suggested I join Banstead u3a and it was the best thing I have done. I love the coffee mornings, the MOTO group and looking forward to the new Keep fit group.’
‘My wife died many years ago and I only moved into Banstead a year ago. Although having family in the area I have joined the u3a and several groups. Walking, current affairs, IT course, MOTO group and go to the coffee mornings. I find it very friendly, and I have met so many lovely people from the area’.
'Just wanted to say that the IT support is a brilliant new initiative and I am so pleased my computer queries were sorted for me on Thursday. Your team were so friendly and helpful. Next on my list is to become better acquainted with my tablet so I may pop in on Monday seeking help with this.'
Tea Dance - Wednesday 21st January 2026
'I thought yesterday was a huge success. The band was terrific and the cakes too of course'.
'A lovely thing for everyone on a bleak day in January. People were so pleased to come out'.

Open Talk - Wednesday 18th February 2026
'I attended as a non-member for Wednesday afternoon's interesting and entertaining talk by Mary Forlenza on 'Women' . During the refreshments, you introduced yourself to my friend & me, and explained how Banstead u3a operates, and the numerous activities. Having had a read of Banstead u3a's website, I would like to join!'
